Mission

The mission of the Solar RC K-12 Outreach is to inspire the students of San Diego, as well as the San Diego community as a whole, to support alternative energy and to show them the mere possibilities of what can be done with some ingenuity and imagination.  We aim to accomplish this by building a solar powered RC plane to use as a demonstration during the presentations about sustainable energy to the local elementary, middle and high schools in order to get their interest, and apply the concept of sustainable energy to a project that is both fun and entertaining such that everyone will be able to appreciate. Additionally, we would also like this project to showcase the widespread use of solar energy applications on the UCSD campus.

Goals

At the end of the day, our goal is to create a fun & entertaining project to demonstrate solar energy at local elementary, middle and high schools.
We want to teach short workshops to the students about how solar energy works, and about the different power sources electronics can run on. We hope to motive these students to pursue a career in the science and engineering field. Locally, we want to showcase widespread use of solar energy to UCSD students. We will be displaying our plane at several events on campus, such as Sustainable Outreach Day in April and Sustainable Job Fair in May.
